Check: Linux isolation
Quiz on the isolation track. 5 questions, retakes allowed.
The module's final check. Five questions on the track's three lessons: namespaces, cgroups, and container as a process. After the questions comes a mini-project: run a web server so that all three mechanisms constrain it at once, and prove it from the kernel's own files.
How it's graded
The lesson passes when all five answers are correct. Get one wrong, hit "Try again": as many attempts as you need. Progress is saved only when the whole quiz is passed.
Below the questions are commands you can use to check the answer yourself. They run one-off
containers (--rm) labeled izi.lab=li04-quiz and don't touch anyone else's containers. The
output shown is from Docker Desktop on macOS. On Linux the kernel version will differ, but the
meaning is the same.
Mini-project
The quiz checks what you remember. The mini-project checks that you can do it hands-on. The
lab environment already has nginx running "as usual": default permissions and generous limits.
You need to restart it to the security requirements (memory, CPU, and process-count limits,
--cap-drop ALL with a minimal set of permissions), attach a debug container to it through shared
namespaces, and record in a report what the kernel actually applied.
Works the same on Linux, macOS, and WSL2, all you need is Docker. Instructions:
labs/01-isolated-service/README.md. Takes about 40 minutes.
What you'll need for the tasks

Check what you remember
01 What is a container from the host's point of view?
02 How do namespaces and cgroups split the work?
03 What distinguishes a container from a virtual machine?
04 What's true about root inside a container?
05 What happens if you run a container with no memory limit in its cgroup?
