Check: Ansible
Ten questions: the agentless model, idempotency, ad-hoc commands, playbooks, roles, rolling updates, and dynamic inventory. You can retake it.
The module's final check. Ten questions covering the whole track: what Ansible is, inventory and ad-hoc commands, ansible.cfg, running without Python, idempotency, your first playbook, roles, variable precedence, safe prod runs, dynamic inventory and Vault.
After the questions comes a mini-project: a role that rolls out a site to two hosts one at a time, with a group variable and a secret from Vault. You'll use almost the whole module there.
How it's graded
The lesson is marked complete when all ten answers are correct. Get one wrong, click "Try again": as many attempts as you need. Progress is saved only once you finish the whole quiz.
Mini-project: the site role on two hosts
A lab environment of three containers: a control node with ansible-core
and two web hosts, web1 and web2, with SSH and nginx. The work/
folder holds a project scaffold: ansible.cfg, inventory, templates and an
empty playbook. You need to:
- write a role
sitewith defaults, tasks and a handler; - override the port for the
webgroup throughgroup_vars; - put a token in an encrypted Vault file and lay it down on the hosts with
mode
600; - roll out the play one host at a time;
- get a repeat run to give
changed=0.
Works the same on Linux, macOS and WSL2, you need Docker with Compose v2.
Instructions: labs/01-site-role/README.md. Takes about 45 minutes.

03 You ran ansible all -i inventory.ini -m ping. What does this module check?
04 Why do the command and shell modules mark a task as changed on every run?
05 How do you make a command task idempotent so it's skipped when the result already exists?
06 ansible.cfg has host_key_checking = False set. What does this disable, and what's the risk?
07 There's no Python on a host. How do you run a task without failing on fact gathering?
08 How does a role's defaults/main.yml differ from vars/main.yml?
09 What does serial: 2 do at the play level?
10 What is keyed_groups responsible for in dynamic inventory?
